Only 40% of the population has healthy feet. Inappropriate shoes during childhood increases the risk of feet problem.
Babies feet are mostly cartilage, models of the future bones. The bones keep growing from the centre to the periphery and are only complete between 18/20 years old.
Babies start walking around 9 to 12 months. Feet start registering information about balance, stability and gait so being barefoot is ideal. No shoes should impair the gathering of information. The medial arch is not developed yet so shoes shouldn’t try to support it.
Between the age of 1 and 3, protective shoes are ok but they shouldn’t constrict the foot or restrict the movement.
So please be wise when buying shoes for your children, their future posture depends on it.
